Growing up in a family with five other kids taught me to be independent and hard- working, but I also developed matronly qualities from looking after my younger siblings when my mom wasn’t home. Throughout my high school years, my personality had led me to be the mediator when my friends argued, the advisor when they had no clue what to do, and the councilor when they had problems they couldn’t talk to anyone else about. While it never occurred to me before, I recently realized hat these traits will take me far in life.
Eve always tried to be very involved in my school. I’m a member of almost every club, but my heart lies with my cross country team. While I didn’t always enjoy running in the grueling heat, it taught me about teamwork, dedication, and endurance. More often than not, my coach would be chuckling at me because I was trying to push a fellow teammate that wanted to walk. I made it my personal goal to push my teammates and help them do their best. My team got region champions in 2010 and this past season. Needless to say, we made our coach very proud.

My youth group leader instilled the importance of community service in me at a young age. Youth group is where I have done the majority of my community service projects. One of my favorite projects was the grocery bandits. My Wednesday night class encouraged the church to bring in groceries to make a Thanksgiving meal out of. We ended up being able to make several full boxes of groceries. My class delivered these boxes anonymously to families in the community that were struggling. I believe that community service is a great thing, but being able to do it without taking credit for it takes real courage.
Eve also volunteered at a homeless shelter/food storehouse twice with my youth group. Other community service projects that Eve done include: cleaning an elderly ladies house, cleaning another elderly ladies yard gathering supplies to take to the battered women’s shelter in Molecule, witnessing in various parts of Vidalia, GA, handing out bible tracts in the community, helping make and put up a tobacco awareness display, giving lankest to the elderly in the convalescent home, visiting with an elderly member of our church that got put in a nursing home, and many more.
While some people don’t think community service is important, I believe it gives people a sense of humility which is an important quality to have. My plans were to become a school psychologist because I have the natural ability to take my emotions out of a situation and look at the problem logically, but then reality hit. I realized there aren’t many Job openings for school psychologists, especially young ones fresh out of college. After thinking long and hard about what I want to major in, I decided on nursing.
Ideally, I would like to go to a college further away from home, but my parents Just aren’t able to pay for it and neither am l. I’m relying on scholarships to pay for my college education. Eve already been accepted to Georgia Southwestern, University of Georgia, and Tartan. Since Tartan recently got a four year nursing program, I decided that would be the best place for me to go. Tartan is inexpensive and it’s only about 30 minutes from home so it would be an easy and relatively inexpensive commute.
I want to complete the four year program and get my BBS. After that, I hope to get a nurses so I find it very important to obtain my four-year degree. Once I get settled and have a Job, my goal is to either attend Georgia Southwestern or take online classes there to obtain my six-year degree to become a nurse practitioner. Becoming a nurse practitioner is my dream, but I have many smaller steps to complete before I reach that goal.
