Why Donate to the ASPCA? BY yvonne21234 According to dosomething. org “Each year, thousands of young and healthy Greyhounds are killed because they lack racing potential or have been injured while racing and are no longer competitive” (1 1 facts about animal cruelty). Sounds terrible, right? Well, there is an organization called the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or ASPCA for short, that helps fght against that type of animal cruelty. The ASPCA was founded by Henry Bergh in 1866 (About the).
Also, the ASPCA was also the first humane society to be established in North America and is also one f the largest humane societies. The ASPCA has authority to investigate and make arrests for animal cruelty. This organization would be a perfect place for someone to donate money to if they are looking to help out a charity. I believe that this is the perfect organization to donate to because they are always fghting against animal cruelty, such as violence, they help to stop puppy mills and they also fght to make animal testing illegal.
This organization needs donations in order to stay up and going and to continue to rescue animals and keep them alive. The first reason omeone should be willing to donate to the ASPCA because they help to fight against animal cruelty. Dog fghting has been a huge part of animal cruelty for some time now. The dog fghting consists of two dogs fghting, pretty much to the death. According to The Humane Society of the United States “the fights average one to two hours, ending when one of the dogs will not or cannot continue” (Dogfghting).
The injuries that the dogs sustain from these fghts are usually extremely severe. Sometimes these dog fghts can result in fatal injuries where the dog later dies. “The ogs used in these events often die of blood loss, shock, dehydration, exhaustion, or infection hours or even days after the fight” (Dogfghting). There are also animal cruelty cases where the owner of an animal intentionally physically harms their animal for any reason. Many animals undergo a lifetime of physical abuse and are never loved and the ASPCA helps to fight for the love and attention that these animals need and deserve.
Although the physical harm and animal can undergo is highly important, that isn’t the only type of cruelty animals go through. For example “In the last ten years, over 30% of cases that we have tracked involve animal eglect” (Animal). A big example of animal neglect is animal hoarding. “Hoarders keep abnormally large numbers of animals for whom they do not provide even the most basic care” (Animal Hoarding). A lot of people who hoard animals are in denial that what they are doing is wrong and harmful to their animals.
Some of these people actually have a strong attachment to each and every one of their animals. People should donate to the ASPCA because they help to fght against animal cruelty. The second reason people should donate to the ASPCA is because they are trying to bring puppy mills toa stop. Most puppies that you see being sold in stores or over the internet have come from puppy mills. Puppy mills will constantly breed a dog until it can’t produce any more babies and then the dog is either killed or passed on to another puppy mill.
Puppy mills consist of large quantities of puppies living in horrible living conditions from the time of birth until they are sold to a puppy store. Puppies look so cute at puppy stores looking through the windows at us, but most According to dosomething. org “The horrible conditions cause the puppies to have both behavioral and physical issues” (Background). It has been noted that a lot of dogs that come from puppy mills are found to have many different diseases and infections. The puppies may also have a hard to interacting with humans and other dogs as they get older.
People should donate to the ASPCA because they are trying to put a stop to the many puppy mills that around the world. The third reason someone should donate to the ASPCA is because they are trying to make animal testing illegal. In my opinion it is really hard to comprehend why animal testing has ever been legal. It is very wrong and inhumane. “Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned and abused in U. S. labs every year” (1 1 facts about animal testing). Every day humans are testing new drugs and medications on animals to make sure that they are safe to be used by humans.
Many house hold products are also being tested on animals. I believe that this is wrong and it needs to be stopped because animals don’t deserve to be treated unfairly and to undergo torture for our different needs. Many different cosmetics and things are dropped into these animals eyes without any type of pain medication. These animals are Just left there to suffer after a testing procedure. Animal testing is completely inhumane and it needs to be topped, this is why the ASPCA would be a good charity to donate to, because they can help to put a stop to animal cruelty.
In conclusion I have explained why it is very important for someone to donate to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, also known as the ASPCA. The reasons someone should donate to the ASPCA include; the ASPCA helps to fght against animal cruelty, they are trying to put a stop to puppy mills and they are trying to make animal testing illegal. I hope that this information will help to convince many people to donate to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
