Personal Statement BY alex405 Alex Mason University of Toronto Computer Science When I was kid, I was always interested in science and technology and science was probably my most favorite subject back in elementary school. IVe always been deeply interested in computers and knowing how they work and it all started with my dad, introducing me to the computer systems at his work place that first sparked this interest. I can always remember the feeling of wanting to know Just how computers orked, why they worked and what else they could do.

Now a days, the world of computers is growing at an un-recordable rate everyday and it would astonishing to get a chance to be in that world and experience it for myself. Computers are the most influential tools in our lives, they are our present and future and it’s hard to remember a day when I’m not really using the computer, since I do my school work on it, surf the internet or chat with friends and Just the amount of things you can do on a computer is Just unbelievable.

My first big achievement, that cost me pretty much my whole wallet, was building my own personal computer which has been my all time dream because iv been using my old laptop which couldn’t carry out the tasks I wanted it to do but when it did, it it was doing it at a very slow pace. Building the computer was frustrating at first, knowing which wire connect to which, but at the same time, it was a fun and interesting experience that was worth every penny in my pocket.

I’ve gotten plenty awards at my school like the Perfect Attendance award” which proves that I have been going to school every day and on time and it also really helped getting my first Job at a grocery store, at which I am currently working at. I’ve also gotten two “Student of the Month” awards for April and May, which shows that the teachers have enjoyed teaching me through out those two months more than anyone else in the class and that I have been showing more respect to them by keeping quiet and always paying attention during classes.

My dad’s brother is currently a programmer in Chicago and he has told me many things about his profession and even suggested some sites where I can get started with programming. Since programming is essentially like a different form of language, the first language I was introduced first was called “Python”. Learning it at first was difficult and setting it up properly was kind of annoying, but then I really got into it and Just couldn’t stop myself from learning more and even the complicity of it didn’t bring me down.

This language also allows me to create my very first game and since I’m also a huge fan of gaming and have been a gamer for a while, I think I might have a lot of fun making one myself. In conclusion, it’ll be a great honor to be accepted to this program that I really enjoy doing so far. My aim is to become a computer games programmer developing any type of game for PC or console, and I believe that with my curiosity and my overall experience with programming and computers, I’ll be able to achieve my goal
