Inter Group and Intra Group barriers of communication in our organization Our organization is the International University College and there can be distinguished three main groups in it – students, teaching staff and personnel. At first sight it may seem that there’s a huge barrier to our communication – language differences, but that’s not a problem since almost everyone speaks English. Another communication barrier we encountered is lack of attention, distraction or irrelevance. Though it’s hard to get people interested in what you are saying it’s not impossible. So, we Just had to pay more attention to our facial expressions, maintain good eye contact (but not overdo it), use gestures for emphasis – in other words, be aware of your body language.

Also choose appropriate topics for discussion and the right time because our collector might not be in a state for a conversation. Some communication barriers we may have overcome but some not. For instance, I have difficulty in understanding unfamiliar accents. Although the majority speaks English, everyone has their own accent. Even our professor in Business Environment is sometimes difficult to understand owing to his Irish accent. And I am certain that practice is the only way to deal with this problem.
We should spend more time communicating with each other and eventually we won’t have difficulties in understanding one another. Yet another barrier we may face while communicating is cultural differences. We all come from different countries with different histories, traditions and norms of social interactions so a gesture may mean something salutatory in one culture, but is highly offensive in another. Therefore, we should always think before using specific gestures and get acquainted with other cultures bit by bit.
I communicate successfully with both teachers and the administrative staff since I know Bulgarian and am acquainted with their culture. The important thing is o be friendly and not forget to smile. And if the other international students don’t know Bulgarian, I could recommend them to rely more on their body language and gestures (or Just learn Bulgarian). As to my position in the student’s group hierarchy, I don’t have outstanding leadership skills and since I’m a newly arrived student you could say that “I’m a passenger running for a leaving train” and once I get on the train I’ll find my place in the hierarchy.
But basing on the classes Vive visited I think that the integrator relations we have can be called united, friendly and sociable both in accomplishing a given task and in communicating with each other. There can be allocated certain success factors which led to the good quality of the communication Clarity: they use simple language, no Jargon’s or unknown terms; вЂў Concreteness: they use concrete and specific expressions; вЂў Sincerity: this makes them appealing; Keep a smile: they make you open up to them and so on.
However, there can be also allocated failure models which resulted to barriers in our communication such as o Passive listening: they’re sometimes interested in other wings than a conversation with you; o Not aware of body language: wrong using of gestures; o Know-it-all: some students make it seem that they know everything; o Language skills: not all of them know their grammar.
Recommendations: The students should pay more attention to the success factors of our communication and rely more on them and get to know the failure models of the communication and try to eliminate them. I believe that practicing can help a great deal with improving the listening skills, the language skills, the using of gestures and body language.
